Yom Kippur Message from the Rosh Yeshiva

Translation:
Dear students, alumni, friends of  Yeshivat Sha'alvim, I am happy to bless you with a Shana Tova, Gmar Chatima Tova for all of you in all realms, with all of the Jewish People.
On Yom Kippur the Kohen Gadol is privileged to enter the Holy of Holies- Kodesh HaKodashim. What is contained there? The Aron- the vessel that symbolizes the Torah and contains the luchot and the broken-shivrei-luchot. The luchot which Moshe Rabbeinu received on Har Sinai on Yom Kippur. The Kohen Gadol returns to the original Kabbalat HaTorah. The Jewish People feel that we have received forgiveness as we have re-received the Torah. The greatest expression of forgiveness is the strengthening of our connection with the Torah. We are returning to the complete luchot.

In tefila we request from Hashem "Return us our Father to Your Torah..let us return to You". The Torah precedes the Teshuva. Teshuva stems from Torah.

Happy is your lot to cling to Torah. We are happy in Yeshivat Sha'avim to continue disseminating Torah- this is the way to reach  complete teshuva. I bless you to remain connected to Torah- everyone in accordance with his capabilites. I bless you to remain attached to the Makom HaTorah that you were connected to in your youth, Yeshivat Sha'alvim. Please support us so that we can continue spreading Torah.

In the merit of strenghtening Torah may we all merit a wonderful year, a Gmar Chatima Tova. May we take from the light of Rosh HaShanah to  the salvation- Yesha- of Yom Kippur, climaxing with the dwelling in the Sukkah. May this be a good year for you, us,  for all of Klal Yisrael, a year of the complete redemption speedily in our times.

Shana Tova!

Wishing you and your family a growth-filled shana tova that brings only health and spiritual and personal growth with peace for all of Klal Yisrael....

הייתה מקדם מקוה ישראל וחרב גאותם
חי! זקף גם עתה קומתם ואמץ זרעם
ותשכן בינותם
ואת אחיך תפקד לשלום ואת ערובתם

You Hashem were forever the hope of B’nei Yisrael
and their pride in battle (lit. of the sword)
Living G-d, please lift up their status and strengthen their arm
and dwell among them;
and remember Your brothers and their families for peace.

Rosh Hashana at Sha'alvim

In most years, Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur usually occur soon after our students’ arrival in Israel. Rather than require them to find a place in a minyan outside of SFW, we are privileged to spend the Yamim Noraim together in Yeshivat Sha’alvim. We are uplifted by the inspiring tefillot there and by the sichot and shiurim from Shaalvim’s outstanding Roshei Yeshiva and faculty. With all the meals eaten together in our own dining room and sleeping together there, all our spiritual and physical needs are met on these important days!

Our experience on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur is part of a larger picture: At Shaalvim for Women, we are blessed to be a branch of – and closely connected with – Yeshivat Shaalvim.

Established in 1960, Sha’alvim has more than 50 years of experience and thousands of alumni serving leadership roles throughout the world. We are the fortunate beneficiaries of that expertise and of those resources. For example, our students have unparalleled access and exposure to gedolei Torah; our Rosh Yeshiva, HaRav Yechezkel Yaakovson, shlit”a and S’gan Rosh Yeshiva, Harav Aryeh Hendler, deliver sichot and answer questions every week. In addition, many of our faculty – such as Harav Michael Yammer, Rav Dovid Lebor, Rav Ezra Shapiro and Rav Noam Koenigsburg teach regular shiurim at SFW.

Rav Waxman at SFW

On Thursday, Rav Ari Waxman, the Menahel of the Moty Hornsetin Overseas Program at Yeshivat Sha'alvim, visited SFW to share words of Torah and hitorerut before Rosh Hashana. Rav Waxman discussed the Rambam's understanding of the "scales" that Hashem uses to judge tzadikim, reshaim and benonim. Rav Waxman eloquently explained the Rambam utilizing Rav Yitzchak Hutner's innovation as discussed in his Pachad Yitzchak.

We are grateful to Rav Waxman for his time and we are thrilled - as we are every year - of the zechut we have to hear from and grow with the wonderful Rabbanim of Yeshivat Sha'alvim on a regular basis.
