Rav Judah Mischel at SFW!

We had the tremendous zechut to have Rav Judah Mischel join us at Mishmar this past Thursday night. Rav Judah, Executive Director of Camp HASC is also a Rebbe and an incredibly inspiring personality.

Rav Judah spoke at Mishmar about "Areivut" in this week's parsha and the need for caring about other people - especially those in special need - throughout our lives.

Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter at SFW!

We were privileged to host a guest shiur from Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter, University Professor of Jewish Thought at Yeshiva University and Senior Scholar at YU's Center for the Jewish Future.

Rabbi Schacter delivered a fascinating and engaging shiur entitled "Did Moshe Rabbeinu Know Everything? Printing and the Unfolding of Human Knowledge" which explored the development of the printing press in Halacha and used that development as a springboard for a larger, philosophical discussion regarding what information Moshe Rabbeinu knew and what he may not have known.

S.E.M. Torah for Parshat Vayigash

Please click here to listen to S.E.M. Torah for this week from Rav Yamin Goldsmith.

For more S.E.M. Torah, please click here.

S.E.M. Torah is a series of brief divrei Torah delivered by various members of the faculty of Sha’alvim for Women.

S.E.M. stands (good-humoredly) for "Squeezing Every Minute" and represents an important philosophy at SFW: every minute counts and every minute can be used productively. Torah must be learned deeply and profoundly on the highest levels possible. However, even when you find that you have only a few moments, we believe that opportunities - like listening to this S.E.M. Torah - are always available…. if you know where to look!

Rabbi Daniel Cohen at SFW: Discovering Your Elijah Moment

SFW was privileged to hear a deeply moving sicha from Rabbi Daniel Cohen. The sicha, entitled "Discovering Your Elijah Moment," was about the importance of seizing every moment and how every single day is full of opportunity. Using the analogy of “reverse engineering,” Rabbi Cohen helped us create a plan for this year (and for the rest of our lives) which would maximize our personal and spiritual growth. Rabbi Cohen also described his recent fascinating "Elijah at Starbucks" project (please click here).

We appreciate Rabbi Cohen taking out of his busy schedule to share words of inspiration with us!

Finally, to see Rabbi Cohen’s fascinating website, please click here.

Rabbi Cohen has been the Senior Rabbi at Congregation Agudath Sholom in Stamford Connecticut for the last 10 years. Rabbi Cohen and his wife live in Stamford with their children including Michal (SFW ’13) and Sara Malka (SFW ’11).
