Siyur to Har Herzl

This week, we took a siyur of Har Herzl, Israel’s national cemetery, with SFW’s Rabbi Jason Knapel. This week it was much, much quieter than it will be next week on Yom Hazikaron when we return iy"H with tens of thousands of other people commemorating the lives and the contributions of the soldiers who fell defending the Jewish people and the State of Israel.

Siyur to Atlit, Zichron Yaakov, and Har Adar!

We had an incredible and informative siyur this week exploring pre-1948 Palestine. As preparation to our post-Pesach siyurim (which will focus on post-1948 Israel) this siyur took us back 100 years to see what life was like for early settlers and Jewish immigrants under Ottoman and British rule.

SFW's Tiyul to the North!

This week was our unforgettable tiyul to the North. Our wonderful madrichot, Rabbi Goldsmith, Rabbi Turtetsky, and our beloved tour-guide Rav Moshe ben Baruch joined the girls of shana aleph and shana bet as we hiked up and down mountains, enjoyed the beautiful sights of the Galil and the Golan, and learned about the rich, ancient and modern history of the area. Just as important (if not more so), we bonded with each other and the Land of Israel!

Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha'atzmaut

This past week SFW experienced - together with all of Klal Yisrael - the zeniths and the nadirs of Jewish history, the agony and the celebration of our people.
We mourned with Klal Yisrael as we participated in Yom Hazikaron ceremonies commemorating the dedication and sacrifice of the thousands fallen soldiers of the I.D.F. who died al Kiddush Hashem defending our Homeland.

And we celebrated - together with all of with Klal Yisrael - the miracles and opportunities afforded our generation in Eretz Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael!

Tiyul to the South!

We had an absolutely amazing time on our tiyul to the South this past week!
From Nachal Gov to the crocodiles and from Kibbutz Ketura and Mount Tzefachot to the Eilat scenery (and let’s not forget the snorkeling, the boating, etc.) we had an outstanding time bonding with each other and enjoying the outstanding views of Eilat and its environs. In the evenings, we enjoyed the enlightening sichot of Rav Yamin Goldsmith and Rav Baruch Felberman and a scrumptious barbecue!

The “can-do” attitude, the positive outlooks and the wonderful middot of the girls as a whole continues to impress all of us.
All in all, we had a wonderful time enjoying Hashem’s land and each other's company!

On Wednesday and Thursday we went on an extended siyur as we explored the upper Negev. We focused particularly on the area of the Ramon Crater including a visit to the visitors center in Mitzpeh Ramon. At night, we stayed at Merchav Am and enjoyed a special kumzitz under the Negev stars!

Tiyul to Mitzpe Yericho and the Yarden

Yesterday, we went on a great Sefer Yehoshua-themed tiyul.

We began at Mitzpe Yericho where we looked out over Yericho, the first city to be conquered in Eretz Yisrael by Yehoshua. We continued on to the Yarden River to see where Bnei Yisrael crossed into Eretz Yisrael and looked across the river to Gilgal.

Tiyul to Neot Kedumim!

On Monday we went to Neot Kedumim where we learned about Israel's water supply and the importance of every drop.

We also acquired some new skills such as sheep-herding.

We had the opportunity to see the different types of sukka mentioned in the Mishna.

We ate carobs and then used their seeds to find the smallest measuring unit.

We made besamim from haddasim, and were also fortunate to be able to taste some date honey!

It was a great start to Bein Hazmanim!

Tiyul to Biyar!

On the first Thursday, the entire student body went on a tiyul to Kfar Etzion and Biyar.

We had a great time bonding and getting to know each other and, at the same time, appreciating the beautiful land that we have been given!

The tiyul ended with a wonderful barbecue that the girls themselves - with the help of their shana bet friends - prepared!
