As posted previously, the SFW Beit Midrash has recently begun expanding its population to include Israeli young women who learn (in Hebrew, of course) with our shana aleph students. These new students work in Yerushalayim during the day doing “Sherut Leumi” in a variety of settings such as hospitals and nursing homes.
These Israeli young women - most of them the same age as our shana aleph students - are interested in contributing to and serving our country after high school. The Sherut Leumi program affords them that opportunity. But they are also interested in learning in SFW’s wonderful Beit Midrash setting to learn in and to continue growing. They gain from - and contribute to - our strong “Kol shel Torah” in the Beit Midrash!
Our students learn b’chavruta with their Israeli counterparts during chaburot and night seder! We are working to expand this program even more in the future!
(If you are not familiar with Sherut Leumi, see the Wikipedia entry - in English or in Hebrew - for basic information. You can also read about different National organizations that describe the program in more detail by clicking here, here or here.)
