Siyur to Wadi Kelt

Our last siyur of the z’man took place in Wadi Kelt along the beautiful Derech Allon just past Ma’aleh Adumim. We had a great time walking along the water and getting wet (some more than others :) in the refreshing springs. We also witnessed the fascinating spring at Ein Fawwar where water, every 20 minutes, flows in and out seemingly controlled by a computer but, in realty, by collections of water that collect through the surrounding limestone into a karst cave (i.e. caves formed by the dissolution of limestone).

Martin Lowenberg at SFW

Last week, we were fortunate to hear a very special speech from Mr. Martin Lowenberg grandfather of Noa Jerusalem SFW ’11. Mr. Martin Lowenberg shared his very personal story as a child in Germany near the city of Fulda and the changes that he saw as a child and young adult under the painful shadows of the Nuremberg laws, Christalnacht and the Holocaust. We were moved by the tragedies that he witnessed and endured but we were also inspired by the positive outlook and emunah with which he emerged from the ashes of the Shoah.

Rabbi Ariel Davis at SFW

Rabbi Ariel Davis came to SFW and spoke about "How the Torah Influences Modern Israeli Law."

Rabbi Davis, an educator and an Israeli lawyer, brought examples from current events (e.g. the Chief Rabbinate and Conversions) and Israel's history (e.g. secular laws in the nascent State of Israel) to illustrate the fascinating overlap and underpinnings of Halacha and modern Israeli law.

Rav Zimmerman at SFW

Rav Binyamin Zimmerman came to SFW last week to deliver a fascinating shiur about Purim. The shiur, entitled “V’nahafochu” developed a unique and fascinating picture of the infamous legacy of Amalek and our paradoxical responsibility to both remember them and erase their memory.

Rav Zimmerman is a Ra”M at Yeshivat Sha’alvim.

Pre - Purim Fun

SFW and Hatzalah’s “Race To Save Lives”

Many of our students participated in Hatzalah’s “Race to Save Lives” 5K team run this past Friday. 

They had a great time, saw Yerushalayim in a completely new light and, most importantly, helped raise money for a great cause: all funds raised went directly towards United Hatzalah of Israel to help them purchase four fully equipped “ambucycles.”

United Hatzalah of Israel is the only free ambulatory service in the Israel the motorbikes are crucial in rescuing countless people here. Iy”H they will never be needed!
